Having worked in the engineering sector for two years following graduation from University of Limerick with a degree in Product Design and Technology, as well as having completed a course in Architecture and Interior Design, Luke Keeshan found himself wanting to pursue a career in design in a way that was closer to why he had wanted to study it in the first instance. Luke set up Triantán in 2016 to enable him to pursue this goal.
With emphasis on form and no commitment to any specific materials or methods, he likes to keep the scope of ideas wide, whether that be furniture or art pieces. Luke has a desire to work with his hands and with hand tools, but is also open to exploring creativity using computer design and machine processes.
The environmental aspect of design is something that he feels strongly about. If a material can be reused or a second life found for an object, this can also enhance the design due to the ulterior beauty that can be found in objects placed in a different setting.
It is Luke's desire to be a part of as much of the design process as possible, from concept to finish, and through this progression increasing his understanding of the possibilities and boundaries of a product and giving him a more rounded knowledge of a finished piece. Therefore he does all designing, woodwork, welding, assembly, sewing, photography, editing and web design himself.
Luke is hungry to push the boundaries of design and to work with other designers in different fields. He believes that collaborative work pushes you to explore areas that you may not necessarily have been drawn towards before, but that can absolutely only have a positive effect on your work.
